Job purpose
The Senior Claims Officer will oversee claims operations for East Africa (excluding Kenya) and all Francophone markets, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The role involves claims assessment, processing, and stakeholder management to ensure efficient claims resolution in line with company policies and service level agreements.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities

1.       Claims Processing & Management:

i.            Promptly acknowledge claims and request supporting documents from Cedants/Brokers.

ii.            Review and analyze claim data for accuracy and completeness in line with company guidelines.

iii.            Ensure timely processing and submission of cash call claims for payment.

iv.             Monitor and approve claim reserves and payments processed by claims administrators/officers.

v.             Submit large claims for review by the Large Claims Committee (LCC) through the Head of Claims.

vi.             Analyze and adjust claims paid and outstanding by country, cedant, and class of business.

2.       Stakeholder Engagement:

i.            Respond to inquiries from Cedants/Brokers regarding claim status and related issues.

ii.            Collaborate with Key Account Managers (KAM) and Technical Accountants to address market visit insights and client concerns.

iii.            Work closely with Underwriters and Technical Accounts teams to address claims issues, liability attachment, and bordereaux reviews.

3.       Policy & Process Implementation:

i.            Implement company policies and procedures related to claims processing, including claims automation and turnaround time (TAT) reviews.

ii.            Develop and implement strategies for claim recoveries, including tracking salvage/subrogation claims and validating Burning Cost premium computations.

4.       Reporting & Analysis:

i.            Prepare monthly reports on large claims for actuarial analysis and retrocession reporting/recoveries.

ii.            Conduct quarterly reviews of outstanding claims (over 10 years for motor liability, over 5 years for motor OD & non-liability claims) to align company reserves with Cedants’ reserves.

iii.            Support Technical Accounts in reconciling account balances for claims recovered/included in Cedants/Brokers statements.

iv.             Provide timely and accurate data for internal and external claims audits.

 

v.        Generate management reports and handle ad hoc reporting requests.

5.       Training & Development:

i.            Conduct training sessions for colleagues, insurers, and partners on reinsurance and claims management best practices.

6.       Special Projects:

i.            Handle special projects and assignments as directed by supervisors

Minimum requirements

i.            Bachelor’s degree in insurance and risk management or related field. Professional qualifications (CII) is a plus.

ii.            A minimum of 4–5 years of experience in claims management, insurance, risk assessment or a related field.

iii.            Experience handling complex claims (property, casualty, medical or liability claims).

iv.             Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance and claims processing.
