Eric Gumbo

Non-Executive Director

Eric Gumbo currently serves as the Chairperson of the Board of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (Kenya Re). He brings to the Board over 18 years of post-admission experience as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, coupled with a distinguished track record of leadership and public service. He is the Managing Partner at G & A Advocates LLP and has built a strong legal career advising both public and private sector clients on complex legal, regulatory, and constitutional matters.

Beyond his legal practice, Mr. Gumbo has served in several public and governance roles. He is a former Acting Chairperson and member of the Council of Legal Education, a member of the presidential panel that recommended the appointment of Kenya’s current Auditor General, and currently serves on the Commission of Inquiry into the Shakahola deaths. His advisory footprint spans key sectors, having counseled institutions such as KCB Bank, Stanbic Bank, NCBA, I&M Bank, KenGen, Kenya Pipeline Company, the Communications Authority of Kenya, Judicial Service Commission, Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and the Capital Markets Authority.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He has undertaken advanced legal and policy training from Yale University (Financial Markets), Duke University (FinTech Law and Policy), University of Pennsylvania (Privacy Law and Data Protection), and Georgetown University (Legislative Drafting). He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, East African Law Society, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Mr. Gumbo is also the founder and patron of the Legal Aid Centre for Eldoret, a pro bono initiative supporting access to justice for underprivileged communities in Eldoret and its environs.
